脱硫泵常见为卧式悬臂式单级单吸离心泵，是专为输送含有细颗粒的腐蚀性介质而设计开发的，脱硫泵常见材质为塑料泵(常见材质为UHMW-PE等)和金属泵(常见材质为Cr30,2507等)，过流材质要求为耐磨、耐腐蚀、耐冲击(因为脱硫泵出口无阀门，为防止液体的巨大水锤效应，所以要求泵体耐冲击)、耐温(一般为零下20度至90度)，北方要求机封无外接冷却水系统，泵体内部提供自冷却。
